Australian Fuel Prices Soar as Global Oil Pressures Mount; RACQ Issues Warning
Fuel prices are soaring in Australia following a rise in global oil prices driven by conflicts in the Gulf region. In the wake of this Australian fuel price hike, the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) has warned the public to remain vigilant. Petrol prices have neared 2 dollars per litre at approximately 10 per cent of service stations in South East Queensland. This price increase is likely to spread to other service stations in the coming days.
Companies Increasing Fuel Prices
Tensions between the United States and Iran have significantly impacted global oil prices. The repercussions of this have begun to reflect at Australian bowsers. RACQ officials stated that fuel suppliers in Queensland are attempting to reintroduce the old ‘price cycle’. In the last week alone, a sudden increase of 30 cents in petrol prices was recorded at certain service stations.
Tax Discount Ending; Warning Issued
Although petrol is currently available at most service stations at a rate of 1.70 to 1.80 dollars, RACQ economist Dr Ian Jeffreys indicates that this will reach 2 dollars in the coming days. Therefore, motorists should make sure to find cheaper service stations and fill up immediately.
Meanwhile, the fuel excise discount provided by the Federal Government is set to end completely on August 2, 2026. The withdrawal of the current 16-cent discount will cause wholesale rates to rise again. This is likely to reflect at retail bowsers within 7 to 10 days.
