Operation Moonbi: AFP Seeks Help to Identify Childcare Abuse Victims

Police are appealing for public assistance to identify victims of a shocking series of abuse at childcare centres in Rouse Hill and Putney in Sydney. As part of the ongoing investigation known as Operation Moonbi, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) today released images of children’s clothing. Authorities state that community assistance is critical in identifying the owners of the items pictured.

Crucial Evidence for Victim Identification

The released images were located on electronic devices seized from an arrested former childcare worker. Police believe these photographs were taken between 2018 and 2024 at childcare facilities in Sydney’s north-west. To assist with identification, the AFP has circulated images featuring a puffer vest with a dinosaur design, t-shirts displaying animal patterns, and blue patterned shorts.

Shocking Series of Abuse

A 35-year-old former Sydney childcare worker has been arrested and charged with 329 child abuse offences, allegedly committed between 2009 and 2025. Detective Acting Inspector Emmanuel Tsardoulias expressed hope that parents, carers, and the general public might recognise the clothing items and come forward.

The detective emphasised that any piece of information, no matter how small, could prove vital in the victim identification process. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Local Contact Point (LCP) on 02 9765 1000. Additionally, the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) continues to work nationwide to ensure the safety of children and provide necessary support to victims and their families.
